Israel’s history spans ancient civilizations, empires, and modern nation-building. The region was home to Canaanite civilizations and later the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah. It holds religious significance for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Conquered by empires including the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, and later Muslim caliphates. From 1517 to 1917, the area was under the control of Ottoman Empire. After World War I, Britain took control under the League of Nations Mandate, known as Mandatory Palestine. The Zionist movement in the late 19th century sought a Jewish homeland. In 1947, the UN proposed partitioning Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence. Arab nations invaded, in 1948, known as Arab-Israel War. Israel won and expanded its territory beyond the UN plan.
Israel’s geopolitical position places it at the heart of a volatile region. Its strategic challenges are Iran and Proxy Forces like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza pose persistent threats. Israel has conducted targeted strikes against their leadership and infrastructure. Despite dismantling much of Hamas’ military structure, Israel faces ongoing instability and hostage crises Gaza Strip. Israel’s operations in Syria aim to reduce Iran’s influence, especially after the collapse of Assad’s regime, which disrupted regional power balances. Settlements and territorial disputes continue to fuel friction with Palestinians and complicate peace efforts.
