Israel is located in the Middle East, on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Its terrain includes coastal plains along the Mediterranean, Central highlands and mountains, The Negev Desert in the south & The Jordan River and Dead Sea along the eastern border. Ongoing tensions with Palestinians, especially in Gaza, West Bank, and East Jerusalem. It shares borders with:

• Lebanon to the North.
• Syria to the Northeast.
• Jordan to the East.
• Egypt to the Southwest.
• Palestinian Territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip) to the East and West.

History of Israel

Israel’s history spans ancient civilizations, empires, and modern nation-building.  The region was home to Canaanite civilizations and later the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah. It holds religious significance for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Conquered by empires including the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, and later Muslim caliphates. From 1517 to 1917, the area was under the control of Ottoman Empire. After World War I, Britain took control under the League of Nations Mandate, known as Mandatory Palestine. The Zionist movement in the late 19th century sought a Jewish homeland. In 1947, the UN proposed partitioning Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence. Arab nations invaded, in 1948, known as Arab-Israel War. Israel won and expanded its territory beyond the UN plan.
